Advent means something is coming. It’s impossible to miss the fact that Christmas is coming; the world invites us to bustle around and spend lots of money in preparation for Christmas. But the church offers an alternative – wait, pause, take some time out, savor the silence, take a deep breath, wait.
But what is it we are waiting for? The baby to be born in a manger? Our favorite carols? The good feeling of singing verses of Silent Night in candle light?
The six Sundays before Christmas worship will be focused on Jesus Christ, God with us, Emmanuel. Each week will add to our understanding of who Christ is and who we are relationship to him. What might we expect when we encounter our living Lord Jesus the Christ? What does it mean for us when we adopt his name and become a Christian? What does it mean for our ministry and mission as a church?
I am asking for your help to transform my sermons from monologues to dialogues. Each week I will proved a copy of the scripture coming up, a short reflection and some questions. Your responses to these will become the basis for my sermons. The handout is available on the website. My hope is that with 12-20 responses each week I’ll be better able to meet the congregation where you are.
